The U.S. says they are in Iraq to ‘liberate’ the people. They wish to create a democratic form of rule in Iraq. Except that if they succeeded in doing so, I could assure you that the U.S. would most likely have a say in who would be the leader, and that leader would most likely have policies very similiar to the U.S. That is no democracy. That is what I like to call a Puppet Government, my friends. This would also give the U.S. a prescence in the Middle East so that they could keep an eye on other threatening nations such as Iran. What the U.S. also fails to realize is the fact that perhaps the people of Iraq do not want a democracy. They may appreciate some type of reform, but they are used to their type of governing system. How would we like it if Iraq came over, invaded us because they said the way we live and what we believe is wrong, we should be muslim, and proceeded to kill our people whether intentional or not to “free us”. Sounds downright crappy to me.

Iraq has also become a huge money maker for private businesses in the U.S. such as Halliburton. And of course there is the age old controversy that the U.S. is in Iraq to ensure the stability of the oil supply. And I wouldn’t argue that one either. Of course they are! Why wouldn’t they be? Oil is pretty much essential to life on earth out here in the West. And having it would extremely benefit the U.S. economically. So while troops in Iraq are out fighting, big corporate leaders are sitting at home making a killing. No pun intended

And this so called “war on terrorism”? Yeah, try “the war that has created even MORE terrorists”. And the fact of the matter is, it has. This war has created the perfect breeding ground for terrorists to train and test out their armaments. Not only that, but it has created civil war between the two main religious groups: the Sunni’s and the Shiites. There has always been tension between these groups, but I believe this war has given them that extra incentive to take their frustration into waging a full-out war with each other. And just like any other war, hundreds of innocent civilians have died, and will die. That may just be one of the reasons why this war is so accurately compared to the Vietnam War. That, and the fact that the U.S. is making no progress against the ever diligent insurgency, who have the factor of nationalism on their side.

So whatever your thoughts may be on this war, these are mine. And I seriously believe the U.S. is in Iraq for no more than their own personal benefit.

I remember I Spy books, and how they could amuse me and my schoolmates for days on end, and how I always got a little distraught when someone found the object in the picture before I did. I remember Robert Munsch books. Especially Murmel Murmel Murmel and The Paper Bag Princess. I remember how his books had the ability to make me tear up.

I remember getting up on Saturday mornings to watch cartoons when there were still decent cartoons on the air. Some favorites: Animaniacs, Pinky & the Brain, I Am Weasel/I.R. Baboon, Sailor Moon, Cow and Chicken and LOTS more.

The theme song Where In The World Is Carmen San Diego got stuck in my head. I can sing, word for word the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song. At school I would play Oregon Trail, Lemmings, and Cross-Country Canada and have the time of my life. Super Mario was, still is, and will always be the best video game ever made. That and Donkey Kong (all for Super Nintendo).

The Spice Girls will live on in my memory for life. I remember my friends fighting over who would be Baby Spice; I was always Sporty.

I remember when Red Rover got banned from our school. As did Pokemon cards. I remember crying when my sister got a Holographic Charizard card and I didn’t. I’m embarrassed of that to say the least. Remember A-Speza or however you spell it? The little clapping hand games we used to play. Guys did it too!

And I remember when the scooter came out. Everyone wanted them, seemed like everyone HAD them but me. Glad I didn’t get one. It woulda been in the garage after 3 weeks.

Lastly, Furbies. That’s one thing I’m glad the 21st century DOES NOT significantly have anymore hahaha. 

So there you have it. My little blast from the past. How I miss the 90′s! When getting chased by boys meant you literally got chased by the boy, when recess still reigned supreme, when you wrote in pencil not pen, when looks didn’t matter and drugs didn’t exist. I miss that innocence.

  We got to the pitch feeling confident
